Telenor Pakistan together with WiredUp bring Electronic Sports World Cup to Pakistan
The winners of the qualifying tournaments will represent Pakistan at the 6th edition of the ESWC Grand Final 2008 taking place in the Official Host City of San Jose, California, USA from August 25 to August 27, 2008. The Grand Final will gather 800 champions from over 50 countries. The competitors from Pakistan will vie for two World Champion titles and over $250,000 in prize money.
Tournament spots are limited and registration began May 25 for all game disciplines. Matches will be played starting May 30 across participating gaming zones. More than 1,000 top-level video game players from across Pakistan will battle during two weeks on secured servers for a chance to win two spots on Team PAKISTAN.
The following official ESWC game disciplines will be represented:
- Counter-Strike 1.6 Valve Software (5 player team)
- Defense of the Ancients (DOTA) Blizzard (5 player team)
Visitors will be able follow the non-stop action on the web through hltv and live on giant screens, with live commentary from professional broadcasters at the National Final. This is a premier event for visual computing professionals and enthusiasts. ESWC 2008 Pakistan is hosted by Wiredup Gaming and Telenor Djuice.
Video Games are the sports of the 21st century and have become a sport in their own right, with values, rules and codes, with champions who train all year round, young people who become icons for a whole generation.
